Einstein had the notion that space is twisted and compressed at the event horizon of a black hole. Here is a thought:

what if a black hole is black because there is so much space that has been compressed around the hole that it would take more time than there is in the universe at this time to show any light comming out of the black hole. (it takes TIME for light to show itself beyond the event horizon)
