I would like to hear examples of Zeitgeist(a movement, decision, conclusion, event, election that is created by
"the spirit of the times). Not only examples, but factors
in the social, political, economic, territorial environment
that necessitated its creation.
Situations that come to mind are: The election of the first
Black President in America. Was race a factor? Was a negative view of the incumbent and his party. What made Obama's candidacy appealing to White voters?
Another one is Truman's decision to hasten the conclusion
of the War in the Pacific with atomic bombs in 1945.What
caused him to reject MacArthurs plan to use them against
the Chinese in The Korea War 6 years later?
What effect has integration had on our public schools?
Why are they in such disarray? Compare the publics attitudes
toward integration the year Brown vs Board ofeducation was
settled by the Supreme Court vs. Now.
I think the best way to discuss, analyze the phenomenon
is to consider a cultures different views on a topic in two
different time frames. Why was Nixon electable in 1972 and
not 1960? Your thoughts please.
