First Transcontinental Railroad

I recently found a bronze bushing on the original transcontental line, about 4 miles from the currently used UPRR line in Wyoming. There are embossed letters on it; "C1" and "VRY". I am expecially interested in the letters "VRY". I am thinking this is V...Railway. Does anyone know if there was a railroad that started with a V that would have traveled accross the original line? I am also trying to date the piece. It is pre-bearing usage, at a time when a journal plate would have been moved to get at the oil soaked rags with-in the bushings to add more oil. If you don't know the answers but know someone who might, please let me know. Thank you. Mike
