Pygmalion, in movie form later known as "My Fair Lady" , was the work of George Bernard Shaw, now to answer the question, no one taught Higgins anything yet he learned over time that without Liza around he was lonely. She was his only true friend, true friends are hard to find and keep. Liza agrees to continue to live with him, just a friend only, because deep down she needs a friend, too. No, some people just learn the hard way.
