I think there should be a law past that essential services such as the Metro Transit should not be permitted to strike I am speaking for seniors and those with mobility challenges.
Does the Transit employees, realize the concequences to the general public such as seniors on low incomes unable to get groceries, go to hospital and doctor appointments,
persons who are in wheelchairs being unable to use the physically challenged buses that have been designed to carry wheelchairs, these people have no way to get out especially in winter conditions, and the access a bus these have and are great conveyances for the physically challenged,Seniors who are on very low incomes cannot afford Taxis, but still have to do their grocery shopping prescription pick up, a chance to get out and visit others,
all medical attention related needs.
The Transit fare rating for Seniors is affordable, and more so the extension of transfer deadline times because this allows them to go and come with their needs, and alloted a reasonable time frame to do so without having to pay annother fare or use annother ticked, I as a senior strongly regard this is a gesture of kindness and consideration to seniors, especially. And of course to the other members of the general public who only have the Buses to provide transportation. I think the City should as a section of the Government, have to right to introduce legislation that anyone in an mandatory position, like transit police and fire personell whom the city employes should, have a no strike policy, like the Federal goverment invoked in the Mail Strike which is most important, the protection of Human Life, by police, protection of severe fires and emergencey situations and the ability to arrive and leave there necessary appointments and be able to shop for their daily needs and physical needs, a litte more than the mail delivery each day all nessary essensials, for every community in Canada
and should be addressed with a back to work legislation as being a necessary service to the public.
Not as a alternate means of transportantion, the only means of transportation for seniors especiall those whom are the only members of their family, and have no cars nor friends with cars but still have to have a day to day existance by the affordable means the city has provided for such persons.
Thank you for letting me express my and a lot of others opinions, for without considering that these people have help develope this wonderful city in their younger years are they just to be put on the shelf waiting to die.
