It will gain security for its people. Iran exists in a region in conflict. Nuclear deterrence is the only security strategy that can protect it from the powerful nations that have declared it an enemy.

Yes Iran's nuclear program is good for Iran, but bad for the rest of the world. We must not allow this unstable regime to develop these weapons.

Interesting response/proposition! This regime (outside those illegally supported or proped up by the US) is one of the most stable in the world (fantasy and propoganda aside). There exists not a shred of evidence that Iran is building nuclear weapons (there is the complete lack of relevant airborn radio isotopes to prove it - ask any AE scientist)...unlike the known 2-300 nuclear weapons Isreal has and the known 20000 to 30000 and counting that the US has. Considering that the US has already overthrown one democratic government in Iran; if I were them, I would want to arm myself to the teeth. Today Iran does not occupy the land of any other nation nor does she threaten any. The US has standing troops in 177 nations in the world (Nazi Germany's adventurism was anemic by comparison.) Indeed, the empire's managers threaten other governments and peoples on a daily basis.

Iran will gain very little by having nuclear weapons. The world would gain a lot more if the US got rid of theirs. If the US doesn't want to get rid of all their weapons at once, fine, but they don't even look like starting to get rid of any at all. They actually look like they want to make more (bunker busters).

I don't blame North Korea or Iran from trying to aquire nuclear weapons. Whether I like these regimes or not is irrelevant. I have to try to look at it from their side. When the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq they were also beating their chest about North Korea. What would you do if you lived in North Korea?

Iraq was invaded because they were supposed to have WMD. They didn't. Now the people who invaded (US, UK and my country Aust) are saying everybody thought they did. That's a lie because many countries and many people in mine wanted to give the UN inspectors more time. This means they DIDN'T know.

The invasion of Iraq was a viloation of the UN charter but the US gets away with it because they have more guns. Not all US citizens agreed with this invasion so there are smart people there s well. I don't mean to bag all of them.

Even if you believe, as I do, Sadam was a lowlife scumbag and the world is better off without him, the world has lost a lot more in terms of international rule of law than it gained in getting rid of him. I also completely disagree with the death penalty for anyone but that's another topic.
