The book is an autobiographical account that ranges from Copeland's childhood ambitions of becoming a professional wrestler, to his continuing career in WWE. In an interview with UGO

, Copeland stated that he has always kept a journal throughout his career, and while recovering from his neck surgery, decided to take these journals and format them into a book. Copeland started writing the book for his "eventual kids and grandkids", but after snippets posted on WWE.com were met with positive reviews from "people from the office", he was offered a book deal.
