D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum

The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is a museum dedicated to the writer D.H. Lawrence situated in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire
, near Nottingham

It is the house in which he was born in 1885 and one of the four houses the family occupied in Eastwood.
Like its sister site Durban House Heritage Centre
it belongs to D.H. Lawrence Heritage
and is managed by Broxtowe Borough Council.
The house has been laid out in the style of a late 19th century working class house with the furniture being mostly from the family of the women who founded it. There are a few original items from Lawrence's family, however, as is often the case with working class families not much has survived over the time.
Visitors are given a guided tour of the house which takes approximately 45 mins. and explained the significance of each room (parlour, kitchen, yard, washroom, parent's bedroom, children's bedroom, attic).
There is a small exhibition of Lawrence's early original water colour paintings. Photocopies of his later paintings are displayed on a panel. The latest addition to the collection has been Lawrence's original gravestone. It's been on display since 11th September 2009, the anniversary of his birthday.
The tour is rounded off with a 10 minute DVD on D.H. Lawrence's life in Eastwood and thereafter.
