credit or debit cards and automatically receive discounts when shopping with participating merchants.

The company was founded in 2008.

Card model

Edhance uses a registered card model to send discounts to students in the form of automatic cash back. Once a student has registered their card with Edhance any time that student uses that registered card at a participating "card model" retailer, the transaction is automatically sent to Edhance and a discount will be processed into that students Edhance account. Card model discounts are typically between 5% and 25% off.

Online model

In addition to the "card model" Edhance offers discounts for online deals. In order to access these deals, Edhance members must be logged into the site and click through affiliate links. Unlike the card model, the Edhance member does not need to make a purchase with a card they registered. However, in order to cash out their discount the member must have a card registered to the program. Online model discounts range from 1% to 50% off.

Payout Thresholds

Money accrues in students Edhance accounts until they reach a payout threshold of $10 or $25 based on the personal settings of each user. $25 payouts are free of charge. $10 payouts subtract a $0.50 fee from the Edhance users account (if a member is cashing out exactly $10, they will actual receive $9.50 and $0.50 will be kept by Edhance for the early cash out fee).

Payouts are automatically sent directly to members registered card as soon as the member reaches the payout threshold. Edhance does not send checks.

Edhance is the largest student discount program in the United States in Terms of members. As of June, 2010 Edhance has over 1.5 million members signed up for the discount program.

Enrollment verification

Edhance utilizes StudentsOnly enrollment verification technology U.S. Patent 7209931 to check whether or not members are currently enrolled at any accredited university or college across the United States.

Edhance is able to verify students in most cases in real time through relationships with universities. When a student is unable to be verified in real time and Edhance agent will contact the student to verify their status using documentation including but not limited to school transcripts, student I.D. cards, course schedules, tuition bills, etc.

Cash Flow

Edhance never charges students for being part of the program. Edhance operates on an entirely pay for performance base with merchants and charges a commission based on student business that Edhance sends to the merchant. Merchant's do not have sign up costs or membership fees. A merchant registered with Edhance is only charged if and when a student registered with Edhance makes a purchase.

Edhance has no restrictions on merchant size. Small local businesses as well as nationwide chains are eligible to sign up for the program.
