History

Idaho Falls High School is the oldest high school in the city of Idaho Falls, originating around the turn of the 20th century. The present building has only been in use since 1952, however. The school's original building, near the present-day location of the Wesley W. Deist Aquatic Center, was converted into a junior high (Central JHS), which burned down on April 24, 1973. Also in 1952, the City of Idaho Falls constructed the Civic Auditorium, which adjoins the school http://www.museumofidaho.org/LocalItems/chap10.php. The Auditorium remains a major center for performing arts in the area. The school's newspaper is the Tiger Times. Paul Haack wrote the school song "Dear Old I.F. High" in 1927

Academics

James Francis, teacher of Advanced Placement European History and Advanced Placement United States History, was the recipient of the 1997 Idaho Teacher of the Year Award. He was also awarded "Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities," by the Idaho Humanities Council in 2011.
