The ITI's mission entails uniting in a special manner the ecclesial Eastern and Western traditions with one another, as for instance, by celebrating the Mass in the Roman Catholic and in the Greek-Catholic rite

In 2004/2005 51 full time students from 16 different countries studied in Gaming. The president of the ITI is presently (July 2009) Larry Hogan. Further professors were or are Michael Waldstein, Josef Spindelböck, Peter A. Kwasniewski, Rupert Mayer O.P., John R. Mortensen, Walter J. Thompson und Gintautas Vaitoska.
