for twelve years from 1954 to 1966. In 1966 he resigned from the NZ Labour Party (Logan, p. 425). Edwards was concerned with the increasing union domination of the party (Taylor, pp. 122 & 222). He was awarded the NZ 1990 Medal and the QSM
in 1994 for services to New Zealand.
Edwards married Alison Nordmeyer, the daughter of Sir Arnold Nordmeyer
. A former resident of Island Bay, Wellington and Raumati, he died at his home in Mandurah, Western Australia after a period of illness
