. During a reorganization of Gatespace in the spring of 2003 it was decided to open source Gatespace's OSGi framework GDSP. The Knopflerfish organization was founded and the code from GDSP was donated to Knopflerfish. Erik Wistrand was elected president and he led the work in transforming the closed source GDSP into an open source Knopflerfish distribution. Makewave, consisting of the core OSGi development team from Gatespace, is the primary maintainer and sponsor of the Knopflerfish project and has several developers assigned to develop and maintain the Knopflerfish OSGi distribution.
