Gergen was a three-time member of the WCHA All-Academic Team and a WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient in 2007-08.
On May 13, 2009, Gergen signed with the Salzburg Red Bulls for the 2009-10 Erste Bank Eishockey Liga season. He scored 11 points in 45 games.
Gergen started the 2010-11 season with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL
