 based in London, whose aim is to produce independent analysis and debate on UK healthcare policy.

Its principal activities include:

• Holding meetings, workshops and seminars for people interested in UK healthcare
• Conducting and commissioning research
• Encouraging interdisciplinary exchange through a series of policy seminars.
• Sharing its knowledge in the home nations of the UK, and internationally, through partnerships and alliances.
• Funding Fellowships (for example the Nuffield Trust co-sponsors the UK Harkness Fellowships in Healthcare Policy & Practice)

History

The Nuffield Trust was established as the Nuffield Provincial Hospitals Trust in 1940 by Viscount Nuffield (William Morris), the founder of Morris Motors. In 1998 the Trust adopted the name The Nuffield Trust for Research and Policy Studies in Health Services, retaining "The Nuffield Trust" as its working name. In 2007 the Nuffield Board of Trustees merged the Nuffield Trust with its sister charity, the Nuffield Health and Social Services Fund (NH&SSF).
