South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (soundtrack)
Encyclopedia
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture is the soundtrack album
to the film of the same name
. The album was released on June 22, 1999, by Atlantic Records
. The album inlay states that only the first 12 tracks on the album actually appear in the film. The remainder, described as being "inspired" by the movie, are mostly other acts performing alternate versions of those songs; however, D.V.D.A.
's "What Would Brian Boitano
Do? Pt. II" and Michael McDonald
's "Eyes of a Child" are played in the closing credits. The songs were all written by Trey Parker
and composed by Marc Shaiman
.
. Likewise "Up There" is a parody of "Part of Your World
" from The Little Mermaid
. It is also similar to "Out There" from the Disney film The Hunchback of Notre Dame
and "Circle of Life
" from The Lion King
. "Up There" also has the highest note in any South Park song to date; the A5, as well the longest sustained note in a South Park song, the G5 (held for nearly 10 seconds, with small variation with F5 and A5 in between). "Eyes of a Child" is similar to "Go the Distance
" from Hercules
and is a parody of pop songs used to promote movies. Many songs in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut are a parody of the musical Les Misérables or West Side Story. "La Resistance" and "Tomorrow Night" are parodies of "Tonight (Ensemble)", "Do You Hear The People Sing?" and "At The End Of The Day"; "The Mole's Reprise", where the Mole dies in the arms of Kyle, is a parody of "A Little Fall of Rain" where Éponine
dies in the arms of Marius
. However, "The Mole's Reprise" is not featured on the soundtrack. A few songs in the movie are also inspired from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Oklahoma!
The prologue of "Mountain Town" is reminiscent of the prologue to "Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'
," and the finale of the song "Uncle Fucka" (where Terrance and Philip spell out U-N-C-L-E-FUCK-YOU Uncle Fucka'!!) is like the finale of the title song "Oklahoma!".
. Many of the songs from the movie are included in their full-length versions on the soundtrack even though they were trimmed slightly for the movie. Notable differences include: in the film, Satan sings only one line in "I Can Change," but on the album version he sings two. The line on the album version, "But what if you never change?" is replaced in the movie version by Saddam Hussein repeating the "I can change, I can change!" line from the chorus. Both are followed by Satan singing, "What if you remain a sandy little butt hole?" The soundtrack version also includes Hussein repeating the chorus before Satan's rebuttal, with slightly altered lyrics ("swear" and "share" to "know" and "show," respectively), and a longer, instrumental ending where the film version ends with dialogue. In the film version of "Mountain Town", Stan rings the doorbell and wakes up Kenny. In the soundtrack, Kenny's mom answers the door and there is dialogue between the two. "Hell Isn't Good", which can be heard after Kenny is cast into Hell and features a guest vocal appearance by Metallica
lead singer and guitarist James Hetfield
, is a notable omission from the soundtrack. The movie score by Marc Shaiman
and David Newman
was not included in the soundtrack.
