It was established in 1811, in the early stages of modern educational development in Ireland.

It was announced in December 2010, Mr O' Toole would be retiring as the principal of St. Josephs and that Mr. Desmond would take over as principal. Mr O' Toole left as principal on December 21, 2010, he was supposed to leave as principal December 23, 2010, but due to the snow, he couldn't. He visited the school twice after the concert (January 19 & 26, February 28 and March 8, 14 and 18th 2011). "Happy Trails, Mr O Toole".

It was reported on May 11, 2011, that Choir Teacher Michael Malone is leaving in June/September 2011.

Peace compilation

On Friday, June 12th 1998 St. Joseph's released a CD compilation of songs played by the school band called "PEACE".
