Womanifesto is a biannual artist-initiated event focusing on the work of women artists from around the world. It has gained international recognition and developed steadily since the first event in 1995. Through various activities, including art exhibitions, workshops and seminars, Womanifesto develops networks among participating artists and encourages interaction within urban and rural communities.

Womanifesto II held in 1999 in a public park incorporated a larger number of Thai and international women artists, consolidating its foundation and providing another rare opportunity for interaction. Gaining further recognition as a vital "meeting point", this event received total support from the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA).

Through various art activities, Womanifesto develops networks among participating artists and builds relationships within urban and village communities. The last event, Womanifesto Workshop 2001 invited 13 professionals and was held as a community-based workshop involving artists, local crafts people and art administrators and took place on a remote farm in Isarn, North-eastern Thailand. Focusing on the position of women and the wealth of stored knowledge, equally shared amongst men, women and children in rural areas that has been handed down from generation to generation, the emphasis was on engaging with craftspeople and exploring local materials and a traditional way of life, to create a dynamic environment for process and exchange.

Continuing to develop a forum and new spaces for representation, the fourth Womanifesto event is planned as an international publication and invites participation from artists and non-artists, male and female. This project will involve the collection and compilation of texts and images on the theme "Procreation/Postcreation" which will be published as a book in late 2003.

Through the creative process of meeting, exhibiting, exchanging and distributing information, Womanifesto aims to extend its active network and encourage people to consider different points of views about issues that effect us all globally.
