I'm currently doing a research project on microphones. I was wondering if the changing current produced by the carbon microphone needs to be amplified before being transmitted to another telephone.

the telephone co uses repeters for long line service.
some telephone offices will have amplified circuits.
for short line service only common battery and repeite coils ore used.
