Plants vs. Zombies has finally made its way over to the Android OS, with all of its humor and charm completely intact. This is easily one of the greatest tower-defense games out there, and definitely one of the best PopCap has ever produced. Every person in the free world should definitely play this game at some point.
The game starts off extremely simple and introduces mechanics slowly as you go. You play on a grid with zombies pouring in from the right side of the screen. You need to plant sunflowers to gain sunlight to buy more plants and keep the zombies out of your house. The game is perfectly balanced, and it gets harder and harder at the perfect pace. Eventually, you unlock more seed slots and a veritable army of different plants to use. The later levels can get extremely hectic, yet you never really feel stressed out about it. The charming music and graphics definitely set the lighthearted tone of the game, and remain enjoyable throughout.
The transition has worked pretty well. The gameplay and sound are preserved from past iterations, and they’re both great. The smaller scale graphics seem a bit off compared to other iterations, but it’s still a great looking game. The adventure mode and all the mini-games from within it have been ported over, as well as a quick play mode, which lets you play any level from any area whenever you want.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of content missing from the mobile version of the game, such as survival mode and the zen garden. But at a fraction of the price of the full game, and the fact that you can take it anywhere with you definitely makes up for this. This is one of the most original and inventive games to be created in the last few years, and everyone should have the privilege to play it.
