I've just completed the first authorized screenplay on the life of Billie Sol Estes.

We spent over a year on it, and the piece is quite good.

From the beginning I found Mr. Estes to be one of the most compassionate and humorous human beings I've ever encountered.

In screenwriting we look for at least one of the following three things in a main character. They are:

(1) Make the character good at what they do.

(2) Make the character funny.

(3) Make the character the victim of underserved misfortune.

I credit my friend Michael Hague for this advice.

With this guy, I got all three. Together we have a great script.
