The Greeks are often credited with the development of democratic law, the Greek democracy was different from the democracy we have today.

I am a bit late on this discussion so I don't know if anybody will read this. Greek democracy was at it height around the time that Pericles was the leading figure in Athens. We only really know about Athens but it was diferent to what we call democracy today which is probably closer to a Roman republic. In Periclean Athens, all the issues of law that the government were going rule on had to be put to a vote of the citizens of Athens (which did not include women, slaves or foreigners). We don't do that today - instead we elect representatives that vote on these issues, the same as they did in the Roman Republic.
