I am in shock, I got a letter from Dorthea yesterday 10/18/'10 saying she is dying, liver, colon cancer.She wrote to thank me for writing to her and sending her books etc...over the eight years we wrote. I didn't know who she was ! I never asked her why she was in prison. She told me she was sexually abused by all family members when she was seven...on the streets at age 13. in prison all her life , starting around 17. One nun wrote her, and me, she had no one else. In her letter she let it slip family was notified and came to see her on her death bed. She did ask at the end of her letter if I would send money to help pay for her cremation . God bless her. I called the prison today after getting the phone number on line, and I see an article " Dorthea Puente Boardinghouse Murderer"...I have seen that show on TV...no clue I would ever know that woman. I don't think I will ever trust a soul again, I did hear there is a big bridge in Arizona for sale, wonder how much :-(

I knew her to, started of in 1999 and we have been writing monthly since. I knew what she was convicted of but still kept wrighting. I was sad when I got the news about her cancer. I hope my last letter will reach her before she passes. I will help her out if she needs money, one final favour for 11 years of friendship.

Im really sorry for your loss, I did not make myself clear on why i considder her a friend. I dont condole what she did, it was wrong and totaly unacceptable, and far worse than her crimes she never fessed up with what she did, no remorce and no symphaty for the victims families. And for that she is in the place she deserves to be.

When I first wrote to her, I did not know about her past and first time I found out about it was back in 2000. Then we had allreaddy bonded, she was like a grandmother to me, sent me christmas, easter greetings and recepies. I never encountered the BAD sid of her (As most of her victims probably never did either). Its a trade of Psychopaths, and sadly, she is one of these.

Im no monster, I have a heart, and I give money to victim support groups and I feel for you. I know your loss, I have friends (Really close friends) that where murdered and I know the anger that you must feel for this woman.
I have never even shoplifted in my life, im as good as the come when it comes to living a crime free life. I just happened to get attached to this lady and trust me, even if I have some good memories from her, she allso discust me.
I know it makes no sence, but feel free to write me and ill clear it out for you.

I too am writing Dorothea. My husband use to live in the house on F street. He did say there were some wierd things that happened. He lived there in 1970 for 4 months and then again in 1972 for nine months. She is dying and very sick now with the liver and colon cancer. I called the prison a few days ago and she is still holding on.

Wow, I just read your post and I didn't know she had died. I had not had a letter from her in a couple of months. I know that if I were in your shoes I would be feeling the same way. I know she was in a great amount of pain in her last days and as they say you get what you deserve. Maybe not toally in this world but in the next. I really do feel for you and all the victims of her life, as it must be awful. Well, GOD BLESS you and your family and at least you know now she is gone. I'm just so happy that my husband left the boarding home and met me 4 years later because if not I know in my heart he would have been killed by her too. He did say one morning when they all got up and went to breakfast that one guy was missing. When he asked what happened to Joe, she said "oh last night his family came from Mexico and he went with them". My husband Sam always thought well, that doesn't sound right. He left after having a real big argument with her and he said he could still remember her words...."I'll kill you, you son-of-a-bith." So my husband Sam just packed his stuff and left. I thank GOD for that. She was always going to Mexico and getting meds for her tennants. In Mexico they even called her Dr. Puente. He said the whole thing was just a wierd situation. She tried desperately to get Sam on Socical Security but he was denied.
