ebcnancy
I remember seeing the statue on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square and found it incredibly moving. This man surrounded by the power, pomp and circumstance of the square and yet completely at peace.
Then after six months the statue was taken down and since then I have been trying to find it.
I eventually traced it to Chillingham Castle in Northumberland, England. (I was surprised to find that it is now permanently within 12 miles of where I was born and where my family still live!) Last month, August 2009, we visited Chillingham Castle (the most haunted building in England) and found the statue in the Italian Garden, standing in front of a tree. It was as moving now as I remembered it from 2000.
My sister-in-law said that she felt that if she could reach him and hold him she would have his peace. This is probably the best description of not just the statue, but of Christ himself.
Many thanks to Mark Wallinger for this wonderful creation, and I do hope that it will help others who have been wondering where 'he' had gone.
