Kansas City Monarchs
Ernie Banks 1953

I am researching a game the Kansas City Monarchs played during their 1953 barnstorming tour on Aug. 3 vs. a local team of players from my hometown, Brookville PA. Their name was the Brookville Grays.

I found reference to the game in the local paper ... the Monarchs won 8-4 ... but no box score.

I also have a copy of a newspaper ad that has the prospective lineups of both teams. Ernie Banks is listed as the probable starting shortstop.

I'm looking for more proof than this that Ernie indeed played in Brookville. The oldtimers around here said he did, but I'd love to have more proof than that. As good as baseball coverage in the local papers back in those days was, that game, of all games, didn't have a box score listed. Most games had box scores reported.

Any help out there on this one? I know this is probably a deep-sea fishing expedition ...

Him playing in Brookville would line up with history, considering he barnstormed awhile that summer before signing with the Cubs in September.

Thanks from anyone,

My father played for the brookville greys in late 40's and early 50's. I have pics from the team.
