I am related to Jack Broughton as my mother was a Broughton.I did not know that their was such an intrest in him as i thought.I have visited his grave site two times at West Minster Abby and know that it is in the floor near a court yard.I have also visited the library their and was given a lot of information on him but have since misplaced it.My greatgrand mother had a small painting of him but that to over the years I have also lost tuoch with. As a child i can remember my great grand father telling me stories about him. After reading about him and visiting his grave site made it all the more real.I guess he is more popular than i thought.Looking to hear back from anyone with any more history.Maybe even another relative.Thanks. My Granmother Elizabeth Cooper ancesters were Broughton and I remember when I was a joung boy visiting her house on many occassions and climbing the stairs which were very dark and passing a large oil painting of a man holding a large cigar whose eyes followed me. My Grandmother told me that it was Jack Broughton and he was interred in Westminster Abbey. I have no idea what happened to the painting but I suspect that it was lost when me Grandparents died. I wish that I had the painting now. I have just noticed your comments whilst looking on the boxing web site

I also have been told by my family that my Grandfather was distantly related to Jack Broughton. His name was Tom Broughton and also did a bit of boxing. I also learned that there was only one oil painting done of Jack Broughton and when he retired it hung in his furniture and antique shop, which was broken into and a lady in the shop was murdered and the painting stolen. The two men that did this were caught and hanged at Tybyrne. I would love to hear from you. Vera
