My grandad recently gave me a painting which belonged to my great grandfather. My great grandfather was in the Lancashire fusiliers, my grandad said he was serving in france looking after prisoners and one was an Italian who he became chatty with, apparently my great grandfather got him a few bits of drawing equipment and he painted battle of the Somme for him. I've been trying to search for ages now about my great grandfather and nothing is coming up, I even tried to look up Italian prisoners in France just to get something but no luck! Does anyone have a clue where to look or do I have to pay for other records? Thanks :-)
