Please help;
I am seeking eyewitness accounts from people who saw the USS Bagley DD-386 OPEN FIRE, from her forward port 50 cal machinegun mount, on the first two Japanese torpedo bombers as they came across the submarine piers toward battleship row. Then Radioman Recruit Robert Palmer Coles Jr. was stationed onboard the Bagley and in “a very detailed accounting” describes “that just before first call to colors” breaking open the ammo box, loading the machinegun and opening fire on the “First Two” torpedo bombers approaching battleship row. Bob says he saw a public network broadcast of two men who claim “there was a very sharp gunner on the Bagley.” I am seeking avenues and info to eyewitness accounts of the USS Bagley DD-386 opening fire at Pearl Harbor. It may be possible that had it not been for the USS Ward sinking the Japanese mini-sub in the harbor, Radioman Recruit Coles fired the first shots against the enemy in WW II. Bob is alive and I am writing his biography. Please help a veteran relive history with honor. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dennis Boyd
