My Dad fought against the Germans in WWI and WII. But he had great respect for the German soldier. In my research for the novel "Snowflakes on the Don," I learned about Gen. von Pannwitz- What a hero! As the Communists were roaring through Yugoslavia, Gen. von Pannwitz raised a force of Cossacks (anti-communists always) and smashed the vaunted Stalin Division. Of course, he was turned over to the Reds at the end of war and executed (see Operation Keelhaul). Did he have children? I'd like to tell them how much I admire this man, who was the only non-Russian ever made "Chief" by the Cossacks.--- appreciate any leads!
