In 50 AD, Athenodoros Cananites rented out a house that was supposed to be haunted and saw a ghost bound in chains. The ghost led the man to a spot where he was buried. When they dug up the spot, his remains were found there. After that he was buried and was not seen there after.

Conversely in 150 AD, Democritus lived in a cemetery outside a town where ghosts were said to exist. His efforts to prove that there were no ghosts were ridiculed by young men from the town who dressed up in shrouds with skull shapes to fool him. he proved that in the end there were no ghost in the cemetery.
