Today, as my 3 year old son got on the bed at nap time, he asked me to read to him from Henry and the Clubhouse. We were entering Chapter 6, and I cautioned him that this would mean the last 2 chapters of the LAST Henry Huggins book that Beverly Cleary has written! (gasp!)
But, fortunately for the both of us, he fell asleep about 12 pages shy of the end of the book. At least we can read this ending tonight, and I can gear up for how lonely this will feel for the both of us. We LOVE Henry. My son likes Beezus and Ramona, but they are just not his favorites.
I am seriously thinking of writing to the 94 year old Mrs. Cleary and begging her to add another Henry book to the collection. Yes, as if she would even get the letter! She does not have email, and gets hundreds of letters a day.
Just wanted to share our sorrow, and see if any of you can recommend a character as down to earth, and as well-written as our old pal--and his dog, Ribsy.
