Most information on the internet state that Herbert Crisler was born in Earlville, IL (true) but never played high school football.
This information is incorrect. According the Sun Bulletin articles (Mendota, IL) of October 7, 1915 and October 19, 1916, he did play football at Mendota Township High School, Mendota, IL. The October 19, 1916 article states that he and another player, Rich Stenger, "send the shivers up and down the spinal column of the opposing team."
The local historical society has other pictures, yearbooks, and articles proving that Herbert "Fritz" Cristler did play high school football in Mendota, IL. He was living with his uncle, Dr. Oscar Harris.
