It has stored up energy to get it through the germination process.Sunlight and water (i.e. favourable growing conditions) will stimulation the start of cell division and continue until the plant can produce it's first leaves to begin photosynthesis.Weaker seeds wil often die before the whole process can evolve....thus, self eliminating the weaker ones.
