While in Paris Monet was exposed to the works on display in the Louvre. Rather than copy the old Masters as he saw some painters doing, Monet set up his canvas next to the window and painted what he saw outside.

While in Paris, Monet made friend with several other artists who would join the school of Impressionism, among them Manet.
