I found some very old Savings & Loan Assn. savings certificates of my parents (deceased for a long time) in their belongings when we sold their home in Atlanta. One is a money market account actually from the old First Union, dated in 1985, with 10 1/2% interest, and two from a S&L in Atlanta, Ga., dated back in 1966, with interest rate of 10%+. I am the only surviving heir and child to my parents. How do I get these original (still in their plastic sleeves, totally matured ones) .. cashed, as many of the S&L's are now out of business. Also, will they still have compounded interest on all of them from their dates of maturity? Can someone please tell me where to go to find out about these?
