I have an 1866 Springfield Short Rifle, this rifle is not a Bannerman or other outfit cut up. The workmanship is top notch and the condition is excellent. The overall specs on this rifle match the Springfield Armories specs for a Short Rifle to a "T" the only difference is this rifle has 3 barrel bands instead of 2 as most short rifle are seen with. Some collectors seem to think that this might be a proto type rifle built at Springfield when they where deciding what to do with all the 1855s.Looking at the color of the finish and the woodwork it appears for all intensive purposes that this rifle was made just like it is, not a rework Any information on this mystery rifle will be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Mario
