I have been in contact with a person who has told me that he/she is visiting The UK (from America)and had his/her drivers license, credit cards, debit cards and checkbook stolen. This person says he/she has no way to pay for the room in which he/she is staying. This person says he/she has a plane ticket to leave the UK and come back to America where he/she will be able to access his/her checking account but the Manager where he/she is staying siezed his/her passport(his/her only form of identification). Now he/she cannot leave and cannot work or do anything to pay off their debt to the hotel. My question is this.... Does this kind of thing really happen? If so, is this legal? What can be donr to get him/her back to America?
