The civil war was a fundamentalist war as most wars are.Radical abolition in the New England puritanical mind became more important than the Constitution.Many believed that Gods law superseded mans law.Slavery was Constitutionally protected.The only course for them was a war that would transform the sinners of the south that profited in human suffering.The south saw no way out but to rely om the constitution and "dig in".The ultimate leason is always leave a way out with dignity or you will have many deaths on your hands.Not only did 1 million solders die but as many as 300 thousand African Americans starved to death from neglect by all parties.

Thanks for your comment to my querry. The last two sentences are the most important lessons in reference to present day conflict in Nepal. Every one has to take it seriously before it become too late!
