Madrigal Music is meant for two people to sing. It is a short sweet poem or

secular vocal music, mostly about love. It was developed in Italy around the late 13th and

early 14th century. Madrigal music composers were Giovanni da Cascia and Jacopo da

Bologna. The Madrigal music was written during the Renaissance and early Baroque eras.

The number of singers went from 4-8. The Madrugal was also written in England and

Germany. The Madrigal originated in part from the frottola in part from the resurgence in

interest in vernacular Italian poetry. The Madrigal was the most important type of music

in its time.

After that the solo song become more popular. After the 1630s it merged with

the cantata and the dialogue and the solo madrigal was replaced by the aria because of the

rise of opera as an important genre. They would wear old clothing but back then it was

very nice and expensive clothing. The first madrigals were written in Florence.
