This is one of the prettiest towns on the River Thames and has an interesting history. In the local church there used to be (and may still be) a painting of the Piebald Boy who had Vitiligo, like Michael Jackson. Mary Wollstoncroft Shelley and her poet Husband Percy Byshe lived here, it was where she wrote most of "Frankenstein" her most famous novel. Jerome K. Jerome who wrote "3 men in a boat" lived here for a short while and penned most of that poem at the 2 Brewers pub near Marlow lock (off Station Road. Marlow also had the world's first Fire Engine which was designed in the 15th century after several fires at the local brewery. The bridge across the River is mimicked by bridges at Buda and Pest (hence Budapest) and the Hammersmith Bridge in London. All were designed by W. Tierney Clarke.
