On September 16 the Mexican nation celebrates its independence from Spain. In 2011 Mexico turned 201 years old. I'm Mexican American and do not partake in American celebrations of Mexico's independence. Not only because I'm an American citizen, and loyal to my country, but also because I'm a Mestizo. I'm well aware that Mestizos are older than Mexico.
