June 1945 my grandfather 28 yrs old was on "Apple Hill" when ordered to charge his commander immediatly realized they were out numbered and called retreat.Unfortunatly 8 men already were on enemy territory and our men with all the smoke were shooting at them too.So they hid in a cave for 8 days crawling out for water at night and my grandfather did most because the other boys were 17 yrs old and he felt responsible.He got machinegunned one night and died but do you know his own seargant didn't know they were missing?They came crawling back(only 6)and they called them the men who came back from the dead.What an ugly,ugly war,and it took 4 yrs to get his body back here only wrapped in a sheet.
