My surname is Schiro and my grandfather came from Piana degli Albanesi outside of Palermo, Sicily. Our family roots orginated in Albania but in the late 1500's our family fled to Sicily due to an invasion of Moors against our people. It is my understanding that our name prior to fleeing Albania was Skiro. And that name is not Albania but Greek. My question which I open up to anyone who may have further information on my background. How do I trace my family tree back to Greece under the name of Skiro?
