Organic mescaline is derived from cactii commonly found in the desert southwest, particularly at the Texas/Mexico border. Mescaline concentrations are highest in the lophophora williamsii cactus although it is apparent in numerous other species. Mescaline hydrochloride is a semi-sythetic compound isolated and refined from elaborate chemical manipulations.
