Not Lake Allatoona, but the creeks flowing into it on the south and east side. In the 1800's there were a dozen or more mines in the area. There are 10-20 creeks that have gold in them. The Corps of Engineers allows panning with pan and shovel only. If you are new, do a search for Allatoona Gold Panners Club. They have weekend outings for members or guests. They will even let you borrow a pan. Or check out the marina at Little River. I hear they have panning equipment along with maps of suitable areas. Hobby Town on Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw also has gold panning kits.
