"Spiders Bones" makes reference to a mechanic on the crashed helicopter as a "Spec2" throughout the book.
Having served in the US Army during the period covered (1966-1968) - even in RVN and in the same AO covered - I am virtually certain there was no such rank as "Spec2".
Enlisted pay grades go from E-1 (Private) through E-9 (Sergeant Major). In the US Army at that time, E-1 and E-2s were Privates; E-3s were Privates Frist Class (PFC). An E-4 was either a (Specialist 4th Class - Spec4) or a Corporal. Specialist ranks began at E-4.
Seems like a minor, but easily avoided mistake in a great book.
