On researching the WW2 locations of the OSS I was intrigued by a reference to

Area K Bedford, Special Operations – Demolition School

My enquiries led me to a Major Nobby Clarke was worked with SOE on developing secret weapons, initially in a workshop in his low loader trailer factory on Tavistock Street in Bedford.

Worked with Colonel Stuart MaCrae on top secret program to develop weapons for SOE (and OSS).
Included limpet mines, clams, the ‘Sticky bomb’, PIAT (the tank buster), puff-ball, W-bomb, M-Mine, Clam, time pencil, Lead Delay, Kangeroo Bomb, AP Switch, the ‘Johnnie Walker’ bomb and a rocket propelled, bridge-laying tank known as the "Great Eastern".

Another source states:
'The first few hundred limpet mines were made in Bedford but outside contractors were soon brought in. In all, over half a million limpet mines were made and issued for use.'

Question? Might you know if they (and others) were made at Elstow, nr Bedford?
