I am writing a biography on Captain Percival Drayton USN in the Civil War. On May 16, 1863 he was appointed Superintendent of Ordnance at the New York Navy Yard. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what his day-to-day duties may have entailed - I know that the bureau was involved in fitting out vessels and supplying arms and ammunition etc but would love to know what Drayton did before his transfer to the Hartford as fleet captain.
