Thus, the Prize is not only a new initiative with specificity as the first private Ukrainian prize, but it also aims to support and development a new generation of Ukrainian artists.
Peter Doroshenko, Artistic Director states that, "contemporary art in Ukraine is in its second decade, in such a short period of time, the artistic development has passed through a series of phases. It reached certain peaks and many artists established creative systems, but like all scenes, it is ready for further artistic growth. The conservative nature of the local established art world and the new ones being created is a harsh environment for emerging artists, along with a weak educational system for current issues within art. With the lack of contemporary institutions and infrastructure to highlight local talent, it has been out right difficult for the creative processes to function. Obviously, a single prize cannot resolve such problems overnight. Yet, as an innovation project, it can excel the process, motivate a young generation and become an effective resource - improving and modernizing a generating new art."
This is not just a finalists’ exhibition because their art works are presented in the general context of contemporary Ukrainian art from the collection of PinchukArtCentre. Art works selected from the materials of short-listing of the artists, have been paired with new works created for exhibition. The process and exhibition will represent the freshest wave of young Ukrainian art. Each artist has individual space in the exhibition to highlight their works, along with a chance to position them selves as a part of the whole concept of the exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to reveal the uniqueness of each artist while creating a unified presentation at the same time.
