I own a Revox PR99 Mk II tape deck. It gave me good service for years but currently the unit lights up and when I press play the left spool goes into fast mode. The take-up spool does not rotate. Other buttons, apart from the play button, do not respond when pressed. This has made my wonderful tape deck useless.

What has happened and how can it be fixed?
